Closed POD Application

A Point of Dispensing site or POD, is a temporary location where large amounts of medication are handed out or vaccinations are given in response to a public health emergency.  There are 2 different kinds of PODs:  An Open or public POD and a Closed or private POD.

A Closed POD which is private and not open to the public identifies a specific population whom they will serve and is operated by a private business or organization.  The Closed POD will usually serve the organizations employees, employees’ families, clients, and others as identified by the organization.

If the Closed POD Site is a medication site, this means that medications such as antibiotics, are being dispensed.  The head of household, or in this case the employee, may pick up medication for his or herself.  Medication can be picked up for family members, provided they have the proper paperwork for each person filled out completely.

During a Medication POD, forms may be supplied prior to the POD, and employees can complete them at home and bring them back the day of the POD.   Employees can pick up medication on their break, or at the end of their shift, so that it does not interfere with work.

If it is a Vaccination POD site, everyone must attend to be vaccinated.  It will be up to the business or organization to develop a plan to provide vaccinations to employees and staff.  The health department may assist as needed, depending on available resources.  All paperwork must be completed at the Closed POD Site.

You can decide if you would like to be a Closed POD for medications only or both medication dispensing and vaccinations.
