Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or REHS In-Training (REHS-IT)
The REHS or REHS-IT performs environmental health services to ensure compliance with a broad range of applicable local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Responsibilities include performing inspections inside homes, businesses and/or properties, collecting and analyzing water samples, identifying public health hazards and nuisances, providing technical assistance and information to individuals and groups, participating in emergency response plans and activities, and coordinating public health activities with professionals and investigators from other agencies and jurisdictions.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, Biology, or other science-related field of study from an accredited university or college. Must meet the eligibility and licensure requirements for a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Environmental Health Specialist in Training in accordance with Chapter 4736 of the Ohio Revised Code and Chapter 4736 of the Ohio Administrative Code. Must hold a valid Ohio Driver’s License, have use of a reliable, safe vehicle for work use and maintain current automotive insurance coverage.
