Solid Waste

There is one licensed solid waste landfill in Crawford County. The Crawford County Sanitary Landfill is located at 5128 Lincoln Highway. We are required to inspect the landfill at least quarterly.

Crawford County Public Health is considered an approved agency through the Ohio EPA. The rules that govern a landfill can be found at Ohio EPA Division of Solid & Infectious Waste Management Rule Index

If you pick up and haul solid waste from Crawford County residents, you must obtain an annual permit with this office. You can download an application to haul solid waste here: Solid Waste Hauler Application.

The Disposal of Expired/Outdated Medicines Disposal Options:
Most nonprescription drugs (aspirins, over-the-counter medicines) and many prescription drugs (be sure to check the label) are considered a solid waste. The best method of disposing unused, out-dated or unwanted medication is to take it to an approved Medication Disposal Collection site. Our office worked with the Sandusky River Watershed Coalition to assist them with a series of collections in the fall of 2008. Proper disposal of medications protects our water supplies and our septic systems. We hope to bring a collection site to the area annually.

If you can not take your medications to a disposal collection site, here is a simple method that ensures proper disposal:

Place the unwanted medications in a container (or double bagged in trash bags or Ziploc bags) with either clean kitty litter or used coffee grounds.
Seal the container or bags and place in trash that will be taken to the landfill.
Do not burn unused medications!

Using Clean Hard Fill:
Prior to using Clean Hard Fill to change grade on a site (other than the site of generation), you must first file a Notice of Intent to Fill with our office. We must receive notification at least seven (7) days prior and the person filing the Notice of Intent to Fill must include their contact name and phone number.
